On the road in Austria
The vignette covers the motorways. A few mountain passes and tunnels charge separate section tolls, good to know before you set off.
Valid immediately, nothing in the car
Your number plate is the vignette. Get in and drive: cameras recognise your registration automatically, even at night.
All motorways covered
The vignette applies on all A and S roads. Minor roads and villages are toll-free, ideal for a detour along the lakes.
Mountain passes: sometimes separate tolls
The Brenner, Tauern and Karawanken charge section tolls on top of the vignette. We list them for you in the delivery email.
Everything you need to know
WHERE REQUIRED
On all motorways (A) and expressways (S). That includes the short stretch of motorway just across the German border. Provincial roads are vignette-free.
WITHOUT A VIGNETTE
Cameras check automatically. If you drive without a valid vignette, you pay at least € 120 replacement toll on the spot, on top of the vignette.
SEPARATE SECTION TOLLS
The Brenner (A13), Tauern (A10), Karawanken (A11), Arlberg (S16) and Pyhrn (A9) charge extra tolls. You pay these at the toll gate or online in advance.
CARAVAN & MOTORCYCLE
A trailer or caravan behind the car does not need its own vignette (up to 3.5 tonnes in total). Motorcycles have their own, cheaper vignette.

1-day and 10-day: valid immediately
These vignettes are valid immediately after registration. Ideal if you are leaving today or tomorrow.
2-month and annual vignette: from 18 days ahead
Due to the European right of withdrawal, these can only start 18 days after purchase. Leaving sooner? Then choose a 10-day vignette.
